What To Look For When Upsizing To A Larger Home?

For most people, eventually, the time will come when you will need a bigger castle. Whether you are planning for your first child, your children are growing up fast, or you just desire more space, let’s face it – your current home is just not big enough.

Important features to look for in a family home

Larger block sizes for family houses – consider land lots that are around 400sqm and above

Is your family outgrowing your current house? The first thing that comes to upsizers’ minds is usually the size of the block they are to build their forever home, and it is not something that can be compromised when building the dream home to grow your family.

Enough bedrooms to accommodate a growing family – at least three to four bedrooms all on the same floor

The move is usually driven by change in family needs – kids have either just been born or are being born. When thinking about upsizing, you need to consider the size of the property and the floor plan. As when there are kids, you will want at least three genuine bedrooms, sometimes four if you’d like to have a spare room as a guest room or a home office. The position of bedrooms should be front of mind for growing families. If there are newborn babies and young children, parents like to be on the same floor.
>At least two bathrooms – a bathtub can always come in handy
You will want an en suite or a bathroom with a second toilet to accommodate the entire family. It will be even better if a bathtub is included in your build. It’ll make it so much easier if the parents are to give baths to the young kids.

> A main living space, ideally with view of the kitchen and the backyard

Open plan living and dining area is a value-add. Imagine a generous living space you can see from the kitchen – the whole family will be able to engage while cooking or eating, and you will always be able to keep an eye on the kids while they play in the backyard.

> Additional storage space

Plentiful storage is also critical. As an upsizer, you may even want to look for a larger laundry for more frequent loads and a shed for other items.
